A look at the future of my town

It is hard to predict future without making it look like science fiction film.

I live in a small town; my parents say it’s good for growing up and way better than living in a big city. Simply put, everything is very close, and we have everything we need, as if weare living in a miniature of a big city. I do not think this is the case… I cannot quite understand people in my town, why we all go shopping in big cities or go to the cinema there, why people are constantly moving to big cities and why the streets are getting empty.

I love my town and would like it to change, well, at least in my dreams. Dreams, if they come together with the wishes, are bound to come true. Because nothing is stronger than a wish. And my strong wish is for my town to heal and to become a real city.

To change and to revive; my town deserves it. It has everything it needs, it is a nice place to live in, all we have to do is work hard, if we don’t, then I do not think that my town has a future. And it is not good. It is sad when towns die, because towns also have hearts and souls.

I wish my dreams and wishes come together and revive my town in the future. I want it to become A DOOR OF CROATIA, as it is said in a song, and this is how I see it someday.

Someday, in not so distant future, Vinkovci will be the largest town in the eastern part of Croatia. Tourism will be devolped, because all that a person needs to have a good holiday/vacation can be found here. There will be a small airport here, so we will get visitors from other continents, after all Vinkovci is the oldest town in Europe. The Bosut river will be clean and would expand its coastline, and cruisers filled with curious people will flow down the river. The city will be full of students because we will also open a university, interesting to young people coming from all over the world.

People will be even happier. We will no longer have to hear how families move out because they cannot find a job.Numerous factories will be built near the town, and there will be more and more residents every day. Happy and satifished, this goes without saying. Schools will be modern and interesting to every student, and there will be more students than today. The town will no longer have buses polluting the air, instead there will be trams.

And where will I be? I will be here, of course. I will finish elementary school and four years of high school, and I will go persue my dreams and wishes, those that only apply to me. I do not want to miss a thing; I want to use experience every minute of my future life in the best possible way.

After I finish high school I will try to study at an American university, meet new people and customs there, acquire new knowledge and,of course, get a diploma. They say that the best advertisement a city can have is a person who has lived in it. That is what I will do, wherever I go I will have nothing but nice things to say about my town, and be alive advertisement for my town. And of course my wish and my obligation is to come back and help my town. This old sleeping beauty.

I will meet new friends, most definitely willing to help make Vinkovci a town desirable for living, to have all the big shopping centers we now visit in other cities, or even just see them on TV, in the nearby street.

And the streets will be beautiful, large wide promenades crowded with glittery display windows. People will be happy and satisfied content; there will also be a cinema and theater, open swimming pools and landscaped beaches on the Bosut river, numerous sport fields and several sports halls. In fact, we will have everything we are missing today and why sometimes we feel dissatisfied with the way we live here.

The city will be thriving throughout the entire year, not just in the autumn, during the time of Autumns of Vinkovci or some holidays. However, it will still keep that small, miniature of the big city, town personality. It will still be a small town, desirable for family life, but having everything necessary for this kind of living.

I hope this happens really soon. So, my dear town, please wake your inhabitats up and tell them to make you better, you relaxing, as an old man, is not good. Remember this, you are still young, you cannot retire just yet.
